Efficiency is key in the business world and this extends to travelling for business as well. Whether you are going to conferences, meeting clients, exploring new ventures or checking on your operations, making sure you have the right rental car can make all the difference.
Choosing the right rental car for your needs requires careful consideration. Here are some factors you should consider before renting a car.
Assess your needs
Each business trip you take will be different. If you are taking a solo trip, for example, you will need less space than if you were carpooling with some colleagues.
However, you will need to assess the equipment that you are taking with you. If you are going to be presenting, you may need to take a projector board, a stand and electrical equipment. Naturally, this will take up more space than a simple suitcase or briefcase alone.
Look at the driving conditions
Living in Britain comes with the inevitability that the weather could change at any given moment. As with all journeys, it is prudent to keep an eye on the weather in the days leading up to picking up a rental car.
It is also worth bearing in mind the terrain you might encounter. If you are driving across the country you will encounter motorways and as well as more rural areas so you will need a car that can handle whatever you will encounter.
Prioritise comfort and amenities
Spending a significant amount of time in any setting can be made better by being comfortable, and the same goes for being in a rental car. Having access to amenities such as Bluetooth connectivity, navigation systems and climate control.
Before you set off, make sure that your seat is in the right position for you to be comfortable. Whether your rental is for a long-distance trip or several shorter trips, you will want to make sure that you don’t end up with back or neck aches.
Evaluate insurance and coverage options
Before setting off make sure you check to see if you have coverage already through your own insurer or even credit card company. If you don’t there are other options than the insurance that the rental firm offers.
Look into getting temporary car insurance as a cheaper option. You will be able to get coverage anywhere from an hour to 28 days, depending on how long your business trip is for.
Consider fuel efficiency and environmental impact
Everyone wants to play their part in helping to protect the planet so you could consider renting a hybrid car or even an electric vehicle. You would be helping to reduce carbon emissions as you conduct business.
If you do opt for an electric vehicle you may need to plan your route thoroughly to make sure you meet adequate charging points. You will also need to factor in the time it takes for the car to charge up.
Check for corporate rates and discounts
Before settling on a rental company, shop around and see if any offer corporate rates or discounts. You may find that you qualify for some which would save the company money and make your trip even more cost-efficient.
