The suns out temperatures are rising and that can mean only one thing - it's barbecue season!
Long summer days are the stuff outdoor dining dreams are made of, but that said, mastering the art of the barbecue can be a little tricky and most of can admit to being terrible barbecuers!
If we're not cremating sausages, were probably burning burgers and this isn't exactly a recipe for success.
Want to ensure your food is cooked to perfection? Then check out our guide to top barbecue tips - enjoy!
Be Ready
As the old saying goes, fail to prepare and prepare to fail. With this in mind, make sure you have everything in place and ready to go before you fire up your barbecue!
Stand By Your Barbecue
For the sake of your food and safety, stay by your barbecue for as long as your are grilling. This way you can avoid burnt meat and any other unwanted disasters!
Don't Forget The Sides
Ok, so they're called sides for a reason, but that said these should never be an afterthought and there's no reason why you can't make your sides one of the main stars of the show.
From classic potato salads to a few cheeky corn on the cobs there are a variety of options you can try that are sure to have you and your guests wanting more.
Marinate Your Meat
Want to know the secret to more flavourful food? Its marinating! That's right if you want to get the best results, it's best to marinate your meat for a few hours - or ideally overnight - to help seal in some extra flavour.
As a handy tip it can also be a good idea to save some of the marinade that you make and brush your meat with this every 10 minutes or so as it cooks. This will add moisture helping to make your food extra tasty!
Flavourful Fish
Fish tastes great on barbecues - fact. But many of us are guilty of forgetting about this food. So why not try serving up a little salmon at your barbecue? You won't regret it!
Get The Right Tools
Accidentally losing a sausage or flipping a burger and having it go overboard are common perils faced by many barbecuers. But don't worry there is help to be had - all you need to do is invest in the right tools.
A fish slice and a tough oven glove can go a long way towards ensuring that you avoid any mishaps. Oh, and don't forget your tongs either! A decent pair of tongs are a barbecue essential, these provide the best levels of control and can quite literally be your barbecuing best friend!
Use Seasoning Sparingly
Seasoning and spices are key to any barbecue success story. That's right, from dry rubs to herbs, the flavour possibilities are pretty much endless. But that said, it's important not to go overboard.
Get carried away and you could overpower the flavour of the food you are putting it on, so always exercise caution!
Rest It
For added flavour, it's best to leave meats to rest after barbecuing. Eat steak directly off the grill and it will be a little tough.
Instead leave it to rest for a few minutes to give the meat more time to reabsorb any juices. But for safety's sake make sure to rest the meat - covered with perforated foil - away from direct heat!
Go Seasonal
Barbecue season also happens to coincide perfectly with the time when many fruit and vegetable varieties are in season and at their best.
So make sure to make use of seasonal fruit and vegetables such as sweet corn, courgettes and apples, these are great to throw on the barbecue and toss together into salads and can make for the perfect accompaniment to your grilled meats.
