As the summer finally draws to a close, we realise that also means it’s the end of BBQ season. With that sad thought in mind, we thought we’d return to our list of the world’s most expensive beers- luckily you can enjoy beer all year round! (Although your wallet won’t enjoy any of these.)
Atomic Nuclear Penguin
In 2009, this little number from Brew Dog broke the world record and became the strongest beer on the planet with an ABV of 32%. The mission statement was to add a soul to the industry with a beer that was completely different to everything on the market and it really is. This is a beer so strong that its served in the same volume as spirits.
At first, this beer sold for £30 per bottle, but as the supply, which was limited to begin with, dwindled the price was raised to £250 per bottle.
Sink The Bismarck
Named after the largest battleship in Nazi Germany, Sink the Bismarck was the next beer to steal the world’s strongest title (with an ABV of 41%) while also re-defining the way beers were being brewed. It was freeze distilled four times, has four times the amount of hops as conventional beer, and is four times as bitter. Here’s the kicker: it’s also forty times more expensive at £50 per bottle. (Still not as expensive as ANP though!)
Carlsberg’s Jacobsen Vintage
The Danish brewers created ‘the vintage trilogy’ in 2008 as a challenge to the luxury wine market. Yes, that’s right this is a beer that is also technically a wine. Matured in Swedish and French oak barrels for six months, this ‘Wier’ bursts with (get it? Wine and Beer) flavours of vanilla and cocoa and has an aftertaste of ‘Tar and Rope’. Each bottle has an expiration date of 2059 which means you have a long time to enjoy that tar and rope taste before it goes bad.
Average price of a bottle: £262
The End of History
This is a beer to end all beers, a true piece of art in the beer making world, and rightly so. At 55% ABV and pricing in at the soul crushing price of £500, it’s the third strongest and second most expensive beer on the planet. Yes, that’s right we said second most expensive. So why’s this little cheeky thing taking our top spot, well because each bottle is packaged in taxidermied road kill: seven weasels, four squirrels and one hare. How horrifyingly cool is that? (Or maybe just horrifying...)
Just in case you needed it repeating, the price is £500 per bottle. Half a grand...for one bottle!
While all these beers sound amazing in their own ways, we’d recommend to sticking to the regular priced beer, just so your wallet doesn’t hate you.
