Music Festival Dos & Don’ts
01-06-2015
Are you a festival virgin? Worried about attending your first one this month? Make the most out of your first festival and make sure it’s stress free by following our dos and don’ts of festival fun!
DO write a checklist for everything you need
It’s better to be overly prepared than be in a field in the middle of nowhere and realise that you forgot to pack some baby wipes. The best thing to do before attending a festival is to write a huge list of everything you need or think you might need. This way, you can go down the list and check off things as you purchase them. You can usually find a list of stuff online – so you can make sure you have everything written down.
DON’T break any of the guidelines & rules
Before attending a festival, you should check their website for their terms and conditions, which will let you know about any specific rules. A lot of festivals don’t allow glass to be taken in, so you will have to transfer your alcohol into plastic bottles. Some festivals might have a limit on the amount of alcohol you can take in – so don’t waste money by taking too much if it’s not allowed.
DO take lots of food
Food stalls at festivals can be exciting as they often sell lots of unusual sounding food that you really need to try. However, they can be expensive too – especially if you are planning on eating a few times a day. We think it’s important that you make sure you pack lots of food and snacks to eat during your time there – so you only have to purchase from the stalls when you really want to. Take a gas BBQ with you – it’s super easy to use and everyone loves bbq food.
DON’T forget to keep hydrated
We’re not talking beer – although we know you will be drinking plenty of it. It’s essential that you take plenty of water and keep yourself hydrated. Most arenas will allow you to take water inside with you, as long as it’s in an unopened bottle. They can get extremely cramped and hot, so drinking water regularly is a good idea.
DO arrive early
We think it’s better to arrive early than be the last one to arrive. If you don’t set off early for a festival, it’s likely that you will spend half a day in a queue and then an hour trying to find somewhere to camp. You don’t want to be the person that has to camp on the field furthest away from the car park – especially if it rains! Set off a few hours earlier – you can always nap when you are all set up!
DO be prepared for all different kinds of weather
We live in the UK, so unless your festival is taking place in a sunnier climate, you should be prepared for the fact that the weather might take a turn for the worse. Despite it being summer, UK weather is unpredictable and you don’t want to be stuck in a wet and muddy field without a coat or wellies. Pack for both sun and rain – you can still make your outfits look fashionable.
DON’T take anything expensive
Tents aren’t safe and there is unfortunately little to do to prevent someone coming into yours and stealing your stuff. Therefore don’t risk it – leave anything of value at home. You can take your money with you when you leave for the arena – nothing else is needed. We think it’s a bad idea to try to secure your tent, as you are letting people know that you have something worth stealing.
If you follow our dos and don’ts, there is no reason why you can’t stay safe and secure whilst having fun at your very first music festival. It’s a brilliant experience – enjoy it!
