Perfect Barbecue Recipes: Burgers
05-03-2015
As we discussed in our previous barbecue blog we love a good barbecue, and think that there is no better way to cook when the sun is shining. Seeing as the sun is out (for now) we thought that we would stick with this barbecue theme and share one of our favourite recipes for the perfect beef burger.
What You’ll Need (serves 6-8, depending how big you make them)
For the Burger
· 500g high quality ground beef or the finest mince that you can find.
· 12 crackers
· 1 large egg
· Seasoning (a good pinch of salt and pepper)
· Herbs and spices of your choice (thyme and parsley both work well, a little chilli powder is great for a kick of heat) *optional
For the bun
· 6-8 sesame seed buns (don’t be tempted by crusty ones, they squish the contents out)
· Fresh lettuce (a couple of leaves per bun) *optional
· Beef tomato (1 slice per bun) *optional
· Streaky bacon *optional
· Sliced cheddar *optional
· Relish/ketchup/barbecue sauce *optional
Preparation
Blitz the crackers until they are the consistency of bread crumbs and mix them into the beef, egg, seasoning and herbs in a large mixing bowl. Once they are thoroughly mixed together shape a handful of the mix into a ball then flatten it to the desired thickness and place them on a plate with parchment between each one. The burgers should then be refrigerated until you are ready to cook them.
Cooking
Once your barbecue is up to temperature, place the burgers on the grill, they should take about 4-5 minutes on each side and then they are ready to be served. Toast the buns to stop them going soggy then stack everything together for a burger that is sure to impress.
As a final addition, a glass full of something extremely cold pays this burger the perfect compliment.
We hope that you get chance to use this recipe this summer and that the weather holds out where you are. If you have recently dug the barbecue out of the garage and have found that the gas tank is running empty, worry not as we can help.
