Kirkley Pocket Parks' colourful high street transformation

A community group in Kirkley, Lowestoft, has revamped their local high street by replacing old planters with new ones from Amberol.

The effect? An inviting trail of brightly coloured planters which encourage locals and visitors alike to explore Kirkley’s shops and local businesses.

Amberol recently caught up with Wendy Dalton, Chair of Kirkley Pocket Parks, about their high street transformation. Wendy says:

I have always been passionate about where I live and being a tourist area, I felt it was important to make the high street look loved. The old planters had been installed over 15 years ago and although another group had tried to revamp them in 2016, they were starting to look very sad again.
A group effort

The community group were granted funding from Kirkley Poor’s Land Estate to revive the appearance of their hometown – a suburb of popular Suffolk seaside town, Lowestoft. As a result, there are now 16 of Amberol’s large V110 Vase planters dotted around Kirkley high street.

Choosing Amberol

The plant pots chosen by Kirkley Pocket Parks are from the Planterware range. These are some of Amberol’s largest planters that have been built to withstand all weather conditions. They are made of a hard-wearing and recyclable material which means they easily withstand ocean spray and will not rust - keeping the colours vibrant for longer.

Wendy tells us why she chose Amberol’s planters for the project:

We were looking for very large Bill and Ben type planters which were brightly coloured to fit in with the seaside. The planters have been very durable, and we have also found that they clean up very well.

Kirkley Pocket Parks show off their very own Bill and Ben!

A big congratulations to Kirkley Pocket Parks for their hard work – and what a fantastic result.
