Singlemode Laser Diodes
APT supply singlemode laser diodes from FiboTEC Fiberoptics and QD Laser.

QD Laser is a spin-out commercialising Quantum Dot and Quantum Well technologies developed through a research collaboration between Fujitsu Limited, Fujitsu Laboratories, and University of Tokyo.

Quantum Dot laser diodes are a revolutionary advance over conventional bulk semiconductor lasers due to their special photon-emission mechanism. In bulk materials the carriers (electrons and holes) recombine and emit photons quite effectively at low temperature. However, when the temperature is raised carriers start to move quickly in the material, resulting in reduced likelihood of recombination and decreased photon emission efficiency.

In Quantum Dot lasers electrons and holes are selectively injected into the structure. At low temperatures, carriers effectively recombine and emit photons whilst at elevated temperatures the injection efficiency of the carriers into the quantum dots remains high so there is minimal fall-off in efficiency. As a result Quantum Dot lasers are virtually temperature-independent between -40?C and 100?C.

QD Laser's Quantum Well laser diodes utilise proprietary materials, structures and manufacturing technologies to produce a range of innovative Distributed Feedback (DFB) and Fabry-Perot (FP) laser diodes including innovative visible modules incorporating Second Harmonic Generation (SHG) of the fundamental DFB wavelengths using Periodically Poled Lithium Niobate.

FiboTEC's External Cavity Laser Diodes use an external grating to selectively seed the laser diode creating an extremely narrow and stable output with long coherence length and low phase noise. The ECLDs can be supplied as components in standard butterfly packages or as compact systems incorporating diode(s) and electronics.
