WORLD WATER DAY 2019

22nd March each year is World Water Day. A day recognised internationally as a means of raising awareness to the ongoing global water crisis and bringing focus to the sustainable management of water resources for a healthier future. As a company with 35 years of dedicated passion and expertise to the water industry, atg UV Technology understand the importance of providing safe drinking water and are proud to be involved in projects to help make sure everyone has access to a clean water supply. Following the theme for World Water Day 2018, ‘Nature for Water’ which explored how nature can be used to overcome the water challenges faced by society; this year the theme is ‘Leaving no one behind.’ Sustainable Development Goal 6 sets out the 2030 agenda, aiming to ensure sustainable development progresses by this point and everyone across the world has access to water. This in turn means leaving no one behind. But today, The World Health Organisation reports around 844 million people around the world lack access to clean drinking water impacting their education, health and livelihoods. World Water Day is about addressing the reasons why so many people are left behind and making certain as a society we make a difference. The UN’s vision is a world where everyone has access to safe drinking water and decent sanitation as they recognise it as a basic human right, no matter where in the world you are. Myra’s Wells is a charity atg UV has supported since 2015 who work to provide clean water in Burkina Faso, West Africa. The British charity has been drilling life-saving wells in the area since 2006 and report 135 wells have been installed over the years. Burkina Faso is the third poorest nation in the world so with our support, and Myra’s Wells commitment to improving the quality of life for these communities, together we can tackle the global water crisis and build a sustainable future by the UN’s 2030 goal. atg UV will be supporting a project in a village near Kaya as the community holds almost 100,000 refugees fleeing further to the North. As a result, many of these villages have become overwhelmed and in desperate need of a well. Ensuring this village and many more have a fresh supply of clean water is Myra’s Wells priority and we are honoured to be involved in helping make a difference.
