Do I need a Written Scheme of Examination for my compressed air system?

and air receiver inspections

The Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 (PSSR 2000) states that it is a legal requirement for a compressed air system with a pressurised volume of equal to or greater than 250 bar litres must have a Written Scheme of Examination.  The 250 bar litres is the calculation of the pressure in bar multiplied by the internal capacity in litres.  For example a 6 bar 10L air receiver (6 x 10 = 60 bar litres) may not legally require one though it is good practice, whereas a 10 bar 300L receiver (10 x 300 = 300 bar litres) will require one legally.

The Avelair team offer comprehensive Written Scheme of Examinations and air receiver inspections for all compressed air systems.

Users and owners of compressed air systems must demonstrate that they know the safe operating limits, principally pressure and temperature, of their pressure systems, and that the systems are safe under those conditions.  They need to ensure that a suitable written Scheme of Examination is in place before the system is operated.  They also need to ensure that the pressure system is actually examined in accordance with the written Scheme of Examination on a regular basis and that the equipment is maintained in accordance with the machinery manufacturer.

The written Scheme of Examination must be suitable throughout the lifetime of the plant or equipment.  It must therefore, be reviewed on a regular basis and amended accordingly, when required wuch as when new equipment is added or pressures changed.
