The 2015 Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estates Management Awards were presented at a dinner on the 20th October during the annual IHEEM Conference and Healthcare Estates Exhibition in Manchester. Seven awards in total were presented by former Bath and England rugby player, Gareth Chilcott. Five products were shortlisted for the Product Innovation Award with the winner being Axis Automatic Entrance Systems for the AXIS Flo-Motion® Manual Sliding Door. Choosing their winner, the judges said: “This product is new and very innovative. It is a classic example of British engineering with a manufacturer rising to the challenge and significantly reducing the opening force needed to operate this door.” Developed initially for the new Alder Hey Children’s Hospital where over 200 of these doors have been installed, Flo-Motion® doors mean that very large and heavy doors can be operated by fingertip control so light that a child can do it. Managing Director Rob Brunero said “We are very proud to win this award which is down to the hard work and dedication of our development and installation teams. We have also won Laing O’Rourke’s Construction North Award for Innovation so I think it’s fair to say that there’s a consensus developing about just how good these doors are.”
