International confectionery showcase
People from confectionery companies around the world visited Baker Perkins at Peterborough to see the latest end-product ideas and processing equipment. Managers and entrepreneurs involved in R&D, new product development, engineering and manufacturing from leading multinationals in the USA and Europe, and developing markets in Africa and Asia, attended a two-day Confectionery Showcase. Baker Perkins marketing manager Keith Graham says, “The showcase provided the opportunity to examine the latest equipment in detail, see live demonstrations of cooking and depositing, and develop new product ideas for innovative added-value products with us and our ingredient partners.” A Flavours and Ingredients Forum was hosted by ingredients suppliers Roquette, Taura, and Firmenich. It included a presentation by Roquette on the use of ingredients for healthier confectionery. Taura Natural Ingredients work closely with Baker Perkins on pastes for new deposited fruit snacks. Firmenich is an acknowledged leader in confectionery flavour technologies, and have worked with Baker Perkins for many years on numerous imaginative products. Delegates were able to examine in detail a complete cooking and depositing line running on test, and a second system in the final stages of assembly. A pilot scale cooking and depositing line was in operation in the Baker Perkins Innovation Centre, where there was also a demonstration of co-extrusion of fruit-filled snacks, a new product with significant potential for confectionery companies seeking to extend their product portfolio.
