The Project
Our Kent-based client wanted to extend their living space as their family was growing up. They were hoping for a room that could give them a quiet space when they needed to study, and become a fun family room at other times.

The Work
After an initial quotation and site survey, the client visited our main show centre where we talked through all their requirements and the options available. The family were all able to add their opinion and wishes to ensure the finished building would be perfect for everyone.
As the TV was a fundamental part of the building, we designed the whole right hand side of it around it, with windows both sides and all the cables hidden.
The plan was to build the combination garden room on a pre-existing patio. As we didn't know what the patio sub-structure was made of, we broke through it, allowing us to install our standard steel and timber frame, confident of a solid, long term foundation.
The building itself is a 23x13ft combination garden room and store (the garden room is 17ft and the store 6ft) with UPVC sliding doors with matching shiplap cladding in the RAL 7016 (Anthracite).
Internally the building is finished with the v-groove 200 in Angora acrylic eggshell, and the floor is one of our latest timber laminate additions in Florence. Our recently-introduced EPDM roof was also included, giving fantastic height throughout the building, while keeping within the 2.5 planning rule.
Full electrics, communications and automation package
As well as a comprehensive electrics package, we also installed all the communications the family needed, including internet, TV and phone.
The client also added our light-wave home automation package, giving them full control of all their lights and sockets from an app on their mobile phone. This includes memory and mood settings, along with timers and more.
To finish the building off, we made trellis infills to the left and rear right, with guttering off the roof and diverted in to a water butt, before leading to a soak away.

The Result
Our client was delighted with the result:
'Myself and my wife first went down to Bakers Garden Buildings site in Haywards Heath to look around the fully built demonstration garden rooms in the summer of 2015. We were both impressed with the quality of the garden rooms and also the fact that there was no hard sell. We came away with a lot of information and after a site visit from Martin to our house to check everything was ok we went ahead.
The installation was hassle free and we were kept informed every step of the way. Payment was gradual as the garden room progressed from a vision in our minds to the finished article. One of the workmen returned after a couple of weeks to finish a small snagging list, which was much appreciated. Martin came round after another month or so and identified that the side storage room door was not quite to his high specification and said he would be changing it without us asking. Overall a great company with a great product. No hesitation in highly recommending'
