The project - a combination garage and studio in West Sussex This West Sussex customer visited our showground as they wanted to dismantle and remove their old, run down garage, and replace it with a new building that incorporated a studio/office section and a separate potting shed. The work - planning the garage and studio After the initial site survey, we realised that, because the proposed building was in front of the property, planning permission would be required. We carried out a second survey with our planning advisor, made the necessary drawings and submitted our planning application to the local council. The application was successful, so we went straight to work dismantling the existing garage and extending the concrete base in preparation for the new building, which measures 5m x 5m and comprises a garage, with studio and shed - all partitioned off into separate sections. The 8 x 8 studio section is lined, insulated and double glazed for all year round use and features painted MDF internal panels and timber laminated flooring. To minimise costs, the shed section was left unlined and uninsulated. The exterior timber cladding was painted in Sadolin Superdec Jungle Green, and features a zero maintenance fire wall to the rear and side. We also installed a comprehensive electrics package, including both internal and external lighting, sockets and heating. The result - a beautiful, practical building The overall result is a timber building that is beautiful in appearance and practical in its design and intended use. And the client is extremely happy: "We are delighted with our new timber building and the service received from the whole team at Bakers.
