This spectacular Sussex summer house with bi-fold doors combines the latest technology with stunning interior design for impressive results. The project – a contemporary summer house with bi-fold doors For this project we replaced an existing garden building with a state of the art summer house with bi-fold doors and complete communication and entertainment system for a family home in Sussex. The work – building a Sussex summer house We designed and built a summer house measuring a spacious 6.4m x 3.65m. Its 4.2m wide aluminium bi-folding doors were precisely colour-matched to the building's exterior cladding (RAL 7040 'Window Grey'). We used our newly introduced external MDF Medite Tricoya Extreme (MTX) cladding in vertical V-groove as this doesn't have the blemishes and knots of timber. And with a life expectancy of over 50 years, this product will look like new for many years to come! Our conventional SBS roofing felt has been upgraded with our new Firestone EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) roof package. This amazingly durable product is specially ordered in for each building and comes as a single sheet for the entire roof. The roof is glued, so has no mechanical fixings through the product on top. This, plus the absence of joints, means we can have an almost perfectly flat roof. This is a great option when installing near the boundary and having to work within the 2.5m planning rule, plus it gives a much greater sense of space inside the room. Cool in summer, warm in winter To keep the summer house cool in summer and warm and cosy in winter, we used our top of the range planitherm, argon bio coo light glazed units. These are designed to retain heat within the building during the colder months and to prevent UV rays and heat entry during the warmer months. The walls, roof and floor are also all lined and insulated for all-year-round use, and the interior of the building has our MDF painted upgrade. The flooring in this Sussex summer house was upgraded from our standard timber laminate to a specially ordered engineered oak white floor. And we painted the rear of the building (which is not visible) in a green masonry paint – we asked the neighbours which colour would blend in and suit them the most and this is what they chose. Complete communication and entertainment package We also installed our communications package including TV, Phone and internet hard wires. (As the WIFI in the main house was not strong enough to work, we installed a WIFI bubble.) All the power and lighting runs off an iPad (and/or other tablets and smart phones). This fantastic product, made by Lightwave, gives the family full control, enabling them to set lighting moods and use on/off timers that change with the seasons. Their tablets can also connect to the TV for live streaming, and control a Sonos sound system linked to a streaming site supplied and set up between us and Avensys Ltd - our sound and vision partners. The result – a contemporary garden haven! This state of the art project was the compete package, from dismantling an existing older building, to base works, building, bi-fold doors, and fitting out the entertainment system (including a wire-free mounted TV and ready-to-use iPad). The result is a contemporary garden summer house haven that can be enjoyed by the whole family all year round.
