Welcome to:
We welcome two new members to our ever-increasing staff list:
Nigel Bateman
Nigel joins our production department and is responsible for purchasing all the components, metalwork and other items required for manufacturing our products.
About me: “ I live in Rottingdean and am on the wrong side of 50 (I used to have hair!). A family man with wife and two kids to support.
I have been in component supply since 1977. I've picked, packed, shipped, tested, soldered, bought, sold, invoiced, sales managed, product managed, counted and sourced components since I was 17. I am an industry dinosaur.
I guess I'm poacher turned gamekeeper with regard to my new role. For 30 years I've worked in distribution, typically supplying end-users...now here I am a buyer on the other side of the fence!
My knees are old and weary, my teeth are gnarled and bent, my hair is gone and I leave dents where I sit. But there's life in the old dog yet. I can source components better than most and am pretty good at multitasking (for a man).
I play bass guitar in a band, drink beer, drink red wine, eat as much as I can, run (sometimes), go to the gym (occasionally).”
Steve Bladon
Steve joins our engineering team as operations manager to head up our team of commissioning and maintenance engineers.
About me: “I live in Paddock Wood in Kent with my Partner and two sons age 15 and 12. I also have an older son of 18.
Being born in Brighton at a time when you could still buy a brand new Morris Minor for the price of a reasonable TV today, I have spent the past 30+years as a long suffering Brighton and Hove Albion fan. My eldest son and I regularly attend home and away games – unless we are holding up traffic towing our caravan to various locations around the country!
When I am not watching football or caravanning (occasionally combined) I enjoy other great challenges in life such as trying to hit a golf ball in a straight line, attempting to pull weeds instead of plants out of the garden and making every effort not to end up with beef or chicken charcoal at family BBQs . Having recently joined the team at Baldwin Boxall I look forward to meeting many of the existing client base over the coming months.”
Promotions:
Dominic Carney joined us at the end of 2008. Originally employed in our busy despatch department, his enthusiasm and energy was quickly recognised and he is now a member of our sales team. Dom, as he is known, used to cycle to and from work (some five miles) before he gained his driving licence. Despite some challenging weather – and the fact that Sussex is not exactly flat – he always arrived with a smile on his face. Ever-keen, Dom has fitted in extremely well and is eager for PLASA to arrive as he will be manning our stand. He is enjoying the new challenges of the sales office and looks forward to meeting many of our customers in the future.
Chris Grant is now Senior Development Engineer, supervising technical advancements in our R&D team. Chris has been involved in many new product innovations – a key one being our Care range. His new role is part of our expansion of our R&D department.
