As an industry that focuses on producing products that contribute to creating a sustainable source of energy, we must question why this same goal cannot be followed from the factory floor to the wind farms that span the globe.
Alex Pucacco, O&M consultant at engineering specialist BGB, provides insight on how manufacturers can employ more environmentally friendly and sustainable operations during a time of uncertainty within the sector.
The production network of manufacturing in the wind sector is becoming more complex to navigate.Nationalisation movements such as Brexit and US steel tariffs pose big challenges and uncertainty for the wind industry's global supply chain. In the three months leading up to June 2018, the gap between UK imports and exports widened to £5.5bn compared with the previous three months, with the prospect of Brexit being cited as the main factor in this. The greatest reductions in output were felt by factories producing metal products and electrical equipment.
