Great News!!! I’m sure you can imagine that doing something like the challenge of cycling 900 miles carries a fair price tag. There are things to think about like the cost of fuel to get to the start and home from the finish, hotels and food, as well as the cost of equipment that I’ll need and spares for the journey too – inner tubes, tyres, chains etc…. Last weekend I had a long chat with a good friend Warren Matthews. Warren and I have known each other for almost 30 years after we joined the Air Cadets (ATC) together. We both spent many happy years with the ATC on summer camps, shooting weekends and flying, as well as many nights & weekends drinking…… when we were old enough!!!. Well, when I joined the RAF I naturally drifted away from quite a few friends at home and it wasn’t until I became a Trustee for Crookstone Adventure Trust (more about that another time) that Warren and I were back in contact. Warren took over a company in 2017 that he rebranded as Billington Safety Systems Ltd, a safety fencing & safety barrier specialist. The products of Billington Safety Systems Ltd are used around robots & machinery as well as safety fencing on things such as mezzanine floors. I can’t thank Warren enough for this kind gesture as it really takes the pressure off the cost of the challenge, but I suppose it really puts the pressure on making sure I’m at the start line at John O‘Groats in May. The Just Giving page will follow before the event in April. This event will help raise awareness of Bowel Cancer & anything raised will go to helping others in the same situation in the future.
