THE CORONATION OF HIS MAJESTY THE KING AND HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN CONSORT The Emblem A very special one-off emblem has been designed to commemorate the Coronation of HM King Charles III – paying tribute to The King’s love of the natural world, unifying the flora of the four nations of the United Kingdom: the rose of England, the thistle of Scotland, the daffodil of Wales and the shamrock of Northern Ireland. The emblem has been designed using the red, white, and blue of the union flag. What do we know about Coronations? Well, the coronation is centred around a solemn religious ceremony. For the last 900 years, (yes 900!) the ceremony has taken place at Westminster Abbey and is conducted by the current Archbishop of Canterbury. The Coronation of the new sovereign takes place in the months after their accession, following a period of mourning. For a lot of us this will be our first coronation and a fantastic opportunity to be part of history. The last coronation was on the 2nd June 1953 of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II who was just 27 at the time, by comparison HM King Charles III will be 74 years old when he is Coronated. The Weekends Events The coronation of the King and The Queen Consort will take place on Saturday 6th May 2023. Their Majesties will arrive at Westminster Abbey in procession from Buckingham Palace, known as ‘The Kings Procession’. After the service Their Majesties will return to Buckingham Palace in a larger ceremonial procession known as ‘The Coronation Procession’. Their Majesties will be joined in this procession by other Members of the Royal Family. At Buckingham palace, The King and The Queen Consort, accompanied by Members of the Royal Family, will appear on the balcony to conclude the day’s events.
