WHAT IS ECO?
The world is becoming more environmentally conscious and eco-friendly, which of course is a good thing, with this we are seeing a shift in peoples requirements for their branded merchandise as they look for a greener approach to all of their marketing it is important that their merchandise aligns with the eco credentials of the company.
All of this is of course great news for the environment and will ensure that we live in a cleaner, healthier and all-round better environment for generations to come, it does however pose a big question – What is Eco?
We have come a long way from it’s recycled (of course there is nothing wrong with recycled products), and that’s great as our suppliers and manufacturers work with a wider range of materials to create the newest and best items for your brands we thought we would try to help you with a glossary of what materials are used in the production of our eco items and over the coming weeks we will feature a range of products made from these materials which we feel will help you create a greener message for your brands.
Wheat Straw – Wheat Straw is an innovative bio-plastic which unlike plastic is not manufactured from fossil fuels, wheat straw is a by-product which is often burnt after wheat grain is harvested, by taking this waste and using it for sustainable, innovative materials and products it makes it a great zero waste solution.
It can be biodegradable within 6-9 months and these products are naturally anti-bacterial, like traditional plastics, wheat straw bio-plastics are extremely durable which makes them perfect for everyday products.
Bamboo – As a material, bamboo is a lot more efficient compared to wood – it grows incredibly quickly, requires little water and it doesn’t require any pesticides. It’s also antifungal and antibacterial, which makes bamboo an excellent choice when you want to make sure you’re buying a high-quality product.
RPet - The ‘r’ in rPET stands for ‘recycled’. Virgin PET plastic, which is made from oil and petrochemicals, can be recycled into rPET. The plastic content in rPET has been recycled, so the material is produced without exhausting natural resources. In the recycling process, plastic is collected, cleaned and remade into products. Through reuse and a minimum of 24% reduction in carbon emissions during production, rPET can be considered a more sustainable choice.
rHIPS.b - This is made from 100% waste materials, taking things like old products, old yoghurt pots, and the inside of fridges, and turn them into useful products.
No virgin material is used. No deforestation needed to grow ‘eco’ materials, unlike other popular bioplastics it does not require extremely particular conditions to biodegrade. The rHIPS.b polymer is broken down by over 600 naturally occurring microbes. Naturally biodegrading in home compost, marine, and landfill faster than standard plastic
Prevented Oceans Plastic – this is a recycled plastic collected from coastal areas at risk of ocean plastic pollution. The ocean bound plastic, would likely end up in the ocean if not collected for recycling.
