Alodining, also known as alocroming and chromating, is a process that will not only provide a corrosion-resistant protective coating, but will also serve as an excellent primer for painting.Although pure aluminium oxidises with the air to produce its own protective coating, untreated alloys of aluminium offer little protection against corrosion, requiring a protective coating provided by processes such as alodining or anodising. When used in conjunction with each other, anodising and alodining can provide a sealant that doubles aluminiums resistance to salt water when compared to just anodising.Alodined parts also retain their electrical conductivity to excellent degrees, and the process adds no weight to a component, and does not alter its pre-process dimensions. In addition to its corrosion resistant protection, the alodine coating will also repair itself if scratched, and marks such as fingerprints can be wiped off.Alodined parts also become hydrophobic as they age, providing excellent protection against water and moisture.
