The hinges are hot forged i.e. drawn to shape, not welded or fabricated. Shutter hinges are designed with an angled offset on which the shutter is mounted so that when the shutter is opened it is thrown clear of the window. A hole will need to be drilled into the brickwork for the spiked part, which is designed to be cemented into the brickwork to add strong reinforcement.
