Chilstone, makers of handcrafted architectural stone and garden ornaments in Royal Tunbridge Wells, have successfully restored an Art Deco sundial plinth from Calverley Grounds to feature in the Royal Tunbridge Wells in Bloom competition.
Restoring a Local Treasure
Helen Timms, Head of Parks for Royal Tunbridge Wells contacted Chilstone to repair the sundial that had a large central fracture so it could stand as the focal point of the garden in Calverley Grounds to be judged a major part of the Royal Tunbridge Wells in Bloom competition 2018.
“We are immensely pleased with how the repair has turned out, you can’t see the repair at all. It’s fantastic to have the sundial back in its rightful place. I didn’t realise how bare the garden looked without it until it was back in position. Thank you very much.” Helen Timms
An Original Piece From 1926, the Year Queen Elizabeth II was born
The Sundial has been in the park since 1926, the same year that Queen Elizabeth II was born. Calverley Park was designed in 1828 by the famous Decimus Burton, who created many iconic features within Tunbridge Wells and the South East. He also built the famous Temperate House at Kew Gardens.
