Donations rather than Christmas gifts at Schenck Process
"Christmas in a shoe box" campaign puts a smile on children's faces
As in previous years, this Christmas we have decided to support the Darmstädter Tafel charitable institution (a charity which distributes food to the poor in Darmstadt). In 2010 we gave the organisation €3000 on behalf of all our staff for the purchase of a new chilled counter and this year we are donating another €3000 to allow them to run and insure a refrigerated vehicle. We hope to continue this support in the future.
The "Christmas in a shoe box" campaign we started last year has been another huge success. This year our staff packed a total of 82 boxes with items to bring joy to kids at Christmas: toys, books, clothes and sweets. The lovingly decorated boxes were handed over to the Darmstädter Tafel and distributed to the lucky children on 15 December. We collected so many boxes this year that "Cafe (N)immersatt" in Darmstadt-Eberstadt/Süd received some too in addition to the Darmstädter Tafel.
Our staff have been generous with their money too. We collected an impressive €1448 in donations which we handed over to the board of the Darmstädter Tafel in early December. 19 trainees, students from the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University and three trainers have also regularly been a real help to the Darmstädter Tafel throughout the year, assisting with the provision of meals and collecting food. And as if that wasn't enough, our trainees helped organise this year's Christmas party at the Darmstädter Tafel.
At Christmas time we support other charities beside the Darmstädter Tafel. As last year we will be making a donation to the Nitya Seva e.V. charitable association and adding the Darmstadt-based Prinzessin Margaret children's clinic to the list of charities we choose to support.
