Schenck Process awards its first scholarship
This year the global market leader in process technology is working with Darmstadt Technical University (TU Darmstadt) to award the first ever Schenck Process scholarship. Schenck Process has always been a keen supporter of new graduate talent and has once again extended its commitment to student funding. This year the global market leader in process technology is working with Darmstadt Technical University (TU Darmstadt) to award the first ever Schenck Process scholarship. The Schenck Process scholarship is intended for exceptional students studying for a master's degree in mechanical engineering at TU Darmstadt and provides the future graduate with a maximum of four terms of support before the student sits his or her master's exams. In addition to a monthly payment, the scholarship holder also has the opportunity to complete both practical training and his or her thesis at Schenck Process. Through invitations to company events and the provision of a mentor, the student also gains practical insight into the company. It's simply the best way to combine theory with a wealth of practical experience. Alexander Arzt, a postgraduate student of mechanical engineering in his second term, has been awarded the first Schenck Process scholarship. Alexander was selected not just on the basis of his outstanding academic achievements but also the 26-year-old's personal qualities. The university drew up a shortlist of candidates after which the scholarship hopefuls had to attend interviews with Schenck Process. Norbert Geilen, Managing Director and CFO of Schenck Process, says, "Schenck Process sees the scholarship as more than simply doing all we can to support young talent. Alongside a financial package, we aim in particular to dovetail theory and practice and offer our scholarship holder the opportunity to experience the work of a technology world market leader for himself." The first Schenck Process scholarship will be officially awarded on 2 December 2011 as part of celebrations at TU Darmstadt. In the future, the Schenck Process scholarship will form part of the annual awarding of scholarships by the German government at TU Darmstadt. The company is currently investigating the possibility of extending the scheme to include other faculties. This is by no means Schenck Process' first commitment to supporting fresh, young talent. For example, the Darmstadt-based company regularly provides freshers with information about placement options and useful study materials and offers students a series of exciting excursions, illustrating just how it operates. Through its work with TU Darmstadt and other regional universities, Schenck Process hopes to further combine theoretical training with real-life experience.
