A well placed crash barrier is the economical solution to prevent costly accidents occurring in all sorts of situations. “Armco” type barriers (as seen on highways) are the most widely used to separate moving vehicles from vulnerable locations. Importantly though, the dynamics of impact presented in off road applications for crash barrier are very different to those on public highways. Instead of high speed impacts at acute angles the impacts are usually at low speed and head on. This requires a different approach than the highways application in which the posts are designed to collapse under impact. Using the same beam elements with a variety of available posts, protection can be achieved in any situation.
