In this new blog series, our newest Apprentice Engineer, Florence, gives us an insight into her new role and how she’s settling in to life as an engineer.
Florence’s journey with C2C began in 2017 when she started with us as Business Administration Apprentice, but she’s since realised she’d like to explore a more hands-on career path.
"It’s so interesting to see how the cleanrooms are built and what they are built for, with all the different components assembled into one final product,” says Florence. “Also the ability of being able to travel, visit new places and meet new people is great as it means no two days are the same!”
So far, Florence has been on site at an e-liquid manufacturer in Stockport with Craig, Michal and Graham in week one and then onto a high-tech engineering firm in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, in week two with Craig and Leon.
“We travelled to the Netherlands through the Channel tunnel, France and Belgium, so in terms of travelling, the role has definitely met my expectations so far!
“As an apprentice, it’s all new to me, so I’ve spent my first couple of weeks learning the basics; how to drill and tap holes, hang softwall curtain, seal panels and take particle counts.”

Despite every day being different, Florence’s weeks will follow a pattern, “on Mondays I’m at college, studying Engineering HNC, and then I’m on site Tuesday to Friday - sometimes staying away if site is far from home. I have the odd day or week back in the office where I can catch up on college work and help out in the warehouse.
“The biggest challenge I’ve faced so far? There is just so much to take in and learn! My apprenticeship is 2 years though, so I have plenty of time to absorb everything.
“I love the atmosphere on site with everyone just getting stuck in, meeting new people and travelling around. It’s nice to then come back into the office to see what happens behind the scene.”
Florence credits the wider I&V team for helping her settle in to the role so well, “everyone is so supportive and positive about my training - which I appreciate so much. I wouldn’t be where I am now if it wasn’t for them!”
Sounds like a great start, Florence! Come back soon for another Careers Spotlight.
