White aluminium oxide Alundum Stones are used as an abrasive for `stoning back` fired enamel surfaces. This 100 grit Alundum Stone will stone back enamel to a coarser finish. The fired enamel can then be finished further with a fine grit stone for a smooth, matte surface. Once this process is complete and a matte finish is achieved, the enamel can also be re-fired if desired to produce a very smooth, glossy finish. Alundum stones typically leave no residue on the enamel, avoiding contaminants being re-fired into the enamel and becoming visible. However, to ensure best results, they should be used under running water. This coarse grit alundum stone for enamelling has a square section profile and measures approximately 25mm wide by 150mm long.
