These violet hues are caused by the presence of iron in the quartz. The birthstone for february, amethyst has generally been known as the crystal of healing and is excellent for spiritual protection and purification. These beads measure approximately 8mm in diameter with a threading hole size of 1mm and are supplied as a 16" strand. Please note that due to the nature of the material, each strand is unique so colours will vary and slight natural inclusions are sometimes visible. Care: As with all gemstones, care must be taken. It is not advised to place amethyst stones in an ultrasonic, steam cleaner or chemical cleaning solution. Amethyst can be easily cleaned with a warm soapy water mix or an untreated cloth. It is advised to avoid exposing amethyst to prolonged periods of heat and light.
