Emerald is the green variety of the mineral beryl, easily identifiable by its rich green colours, caused by the presence of chromium in the beryl. Varying from transparent to fully opaque in clarity, emeralds often contain many inclusions, which can help in distinguishing real emeralds from synthetic stones.
