This Black opaque vitreous enamel (Latham colour reference of T246) is glass bonded by heat to a metal surface such as gold, platinum, copper, steel and cast iron. This product comes in a powder form. The powder is approximately 80 mesh particle size, meaning most of the grains would pass through a screen that has 80 openings per linear inch. The powder is finer than granulated sugar but coarser than flour; it is applied by one of several methods to a clean surface. It is then heated to a firing temperature of 810-830°C; these steps are then repeated after cooling to get different desired effects on the metal. The colours of the enamel will vary depending on the metal being used; the enamels may not look the same when fired on Precious Metal Clay, fine silver or gold. Contains lead and arsenic.
