Sapphire is a variety of the mineral corundum, that typically exhibits rich, deep blue colours, caused by the presence of titanium and iron in the corundum, although sapphires can be found in varying shades of blue as well as pink and yellow tones. Varying from transparent to fully opaque in clarity, sapphires can often contain needle like inclusions, and are usually heat treated to improve the overall colour and clarity of the stone. The birthstone for september, sapphire has generally been known as the stone of wisdom and is excellent for restoring balance and bringing serenity and calm whilst blue sapphire is associated with love and purity. This round faceted sapphire measure 3.75mm. Sapphire has a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale and a specific gravity of 4.00. Please note that due to the nature of the stone, each stone is unique so colours will vary and natural inclusions and zoning may be present. Care: As with all gemstones, care must be taken. It is not advised to place sapphire stones in an ultrasonic, steam cleaner or chemical cleaning solution. Sapphire can be easily cleaned with a warm soapy water mix or an untreated cloth. It is advised to avoid exposing sapphire to prolonged periods of heat and light. A slight tolerance of +/- 0.25mm should be expected with these stones and these sapphires are sold individually.
