CPM help with hidden gem at London Bridge
10-09-2013
When the Architect Foundation, Team London Bridge and Southwark Council asked for help with a project called ‘Gibbon’s Rent’, CPM were more than happy to help.
The aim of the project was to use a previously neglected cut through between Magdalen and Bermondsey Streets in London SE1 and convert it into a socialable garden.
The project was lead by Australian architect, Andrew Burns and British landscape designer, Sarah Eberle who used CPM precast concrete pipes and chamber rings to form a series of large planted concrete pots which were filled with plants. The project now invites others to contribute to its landscape by donating and adding pots to the space to create a cumulative and ever changing community landscape.
Co-designers Andrew Burns and Sarah Eberle said: “It is a pleasure to see the garden in action and see the fruits of our labour. We have created a basis from which the space can evolve with the contribution of community pots. We have tried to create a hidden gem within this very urban context and we hope we have achieved just that.”
