A surprisingly common question we get here at Croft Filters.
With both filters being customisable to your desired micron, and both being available BSP, NPT, flanged and hygienic fittings, it’s not so black-and-white to understand which one’s “best”. I hope this short blog post can answer your questions and push you towards the most suitable solution to your problem.
Quick Release Filter
Croft’s Quick Release Filter is designed for those that require minimal downtime as possible, with a quick and easy release mechanism that requires no tools to undo – this filter is optimal for those where time is costly. With the ability to release the mechanism without having to remove pipework, sizes from 1 ½” up to around 12”, and the ability to withstand (depending on size) pressures of 10 bars, the Quick Release Filter is a great solution to problems within these constraints.
Y Strainer
Our Y Strainers on the other hand, are able to be made to sizes way beyond 12” thanks to casting, and can withstand pressure ranges much higher than the Quick Release Filter – especially if flanged. This filter is optimal for those where there’s downtime within the system already; allowing a longer amount of time for the replacement of the filter, or those that need something more than what the Quick Release Filter can handle.
Y Strainer Product
Which should you pick?
Well, if your problem falls into the constraints of the quick release filter, there’s only a few questions to ask:
– Is the replacement of the filter going to interrupt operations?
If the answer is yes, but you don’t think that it will affect your business/product in a meaningful way now and in the future, then think about if:
– The environment of the would-be-filter will be suitable for tool use
– You need to adjust pipework to access the filter
If you’re limited in these forms of access or maneuverability (particularly for tools) we recommend the Quick Release Filter as the solution, at it helps resolve such issues.
However, if you find yourself in a simple situation where there’s enough space for a Y Filter to work and downtime isn’t a major issue for you, then we recommend our Y Filter as the solution.
