Here we look at the Chamber Shrink Wrap Machine and what it is and how it works.
What is a Chamber or One Step Shrink wrapping Machine
A brief history of the Chamber Shrink Wrapping Machine
A chamber shrink wrap machine is a machine that was developed and patented by Francesco Torre in 1975 for the purpose of applying shrink film to a product in a quick, easy and uniform way. Since this date Minipack Torre have been the world leaders in shrink wrapping machinery and continue to develop and innovate this system of shrink wrapping along with their semi-automatic and fully automatic l sealing systems.
How does the Chamber Shrink Machine Work
Using centrefold shrink film in either PVC or Polyolefin on the better machines such as the Minipack RP 55 the first operation of the machine is to cut and seal a loose bag around the product. This is done simply and quickly by the l shape heating cutting and sealing blade that runs around two sides of the chamber.
This works because the shrink film is folded and has a permanently sealed edge and once the first seal operation is made this presents the operator with an envelope into which the product to be wrapped is inserted, when they then pull down on the hood to make the L seal this then encapsulates the product in a loose bag.
At this stage in the operation the machine can be set to go no further thus leaving the product in a bag custom made. This can be a great way of protecting loose documents, booklets and even archived office paper work. Most machines have this facility and it is often programme one or position one on the shrink wrapping machines setting.
How does it shrink the film
This step in the operation is driven by two factors
a) The Shrink Wrapping Film:
Shrink wrap film can be quite a complex material with various materials and variations available such as PVC, Polyolefin and Polythene. The basic theory is that in the process of making the film it is stretched and cooled. Once heat is then applied via a heat shrink gun, propane heat gun( Pallet shrink wrapping gun) or Heat shrink tunnel then the chains in the polymers what to return or retract to their normal state. This is why if done correctly very little heat is transferred into the product as the heat is converted into the energy required for the polymers to retract.
b) The Heat:
The more uniform the heat the better the outcome, by using a piece of machinery that applies the heat all around the product the film will shrink back or retract uniformly and this will prevent burn through as the position of the product is always the same distance away from the heat source. This can speed up the process of shrink wrapping even with a chamber shrink wrap machine such as the Minipack Torre RP 55.
Minipack have now released their next generation small chamber shrinkwrapper with advanced control found onno other chamber shrinkwrapping machine,if you need a shrink wrapping solution then why not visit us at Dan Packaging machinery. We will show you just how good the new Minipack Torre Replay 55 evo is and how far in front of the competition it is.
