Subsea Pump Bearing Investigation of failure on offshore sub-sea water winning pump bearings. Failure due to non-conservative design leading to high loads on bearing and an element of misalignment leading to fatigue of bearings. LNG Tanker Electric Motor Bearings Investigation of catastrophic bearings' failures on high speed (3600 rpm) high power (1 MW) electric motors driving boil off gas recovery compressors on large LNG tankers. Concluded that bearing selection was outside the speed capability of the bearings and needed to be replaced with plain bearings. Jack-up Rig Pinion Bearings Investigated failure of a number of pinion bearings on Jack-up Rig. Extensive analysis of loads and bearing fatigue lives. Failure due to design error leading to inappropriate bearing selection. Train Axle Box Bearings Investigation of premature failure of train axlebox bearings to support impending legal action. Study suspended when rail vehicle manufacturer accepted failures as a warranty issue.
