Delta attend GE ‘Basements Conference’ 2019

Delta’s Director and Chair of the Basement Information Centre’s Marketing and Technical Committee, Kevin Dodds was delighted to attend this year’s Ground Engineering’s 12th Basements and Underground Structures Conference held on 3 October 2019 at the Olympia Conference Centre, London. Delta were also delighted to collaborate in exhibiting with the Basement Information Centre, which offered a day of engaging with delegates. The GE Basements and Underground Structures Conference aim was to explore the design and delivery of underground spaces whilst bringing together those working on a diverse range of projects in a cross-discipline of sectors. From infrastructure, structural engineering, commercial to residential sectors, the event offered expert knowledge, best practice and networking opportunities for designers, contractors and manufacturers alike and a platform to learn, share and develop ideas to improve quality levels within our sector. Focus was not only on selecting building materials which should fulfil the functions expected from them, with key to reliable construction being: Techniques Technologies (how is technology influencing basement design and our capabilities) Building materials used But also, for the various sectors to work in collaboration and offering the end client value. The focus on collaboration in general and partnership, has broadened and deepened to take root in most aspects of successful building design and delivery. Working in collaboration serves as a vehicle in the design processes and redefines best practice. By working in collaboration, the standard of workmanship can be improved by providing appropriate instructions, clear checklists as well as ensuring there is on-site guidance, supervision and monitoring and an ongoing process of feedback to ensure continuous improvement. Presentations on ‘What does the future of the main contractor-led model’ look like and will specialists continue to lead on more basement projects were keenly addressed, along with case study reviews and technical and geotechnical presentations.
