In this blog, we demystify the journey from raw concrete to a beautiful polished floor, and demonstrate the incredible versatility of this flooring solution.
THE CONCRETE POLISHING PROCESS – FROM PREPARATION TO POLISHED PERFECTION
Polishing concrete is a multi-step process that needs careful planning and expert installation. Whether you’re starting with a newly poured concrete slab or revitalising an existing one, DirectStone’s approach guarantees a flawless, long-lasting finish. These are the key stages of our polished concrete installation:
PRE-INSTALLATION – THE FOUNDATION FOR SUCCESS
Before the polishing begins, DirectStone carries out a thorough site assessment to ensure the very best results:
Site Visit – Our team will visit your property to evaluate the condition of the concrete (if existing), talk through your desired finish, and identify any potential challenges or opportunities.
Site Preparation (Existing Concrete) – For existing slabs, we’ll assess how level the concrete slab is, repair any cracks or imperfections, and ensure the surface is clean and ready for polishing.
We also offer a polished concrete overlay installation service if you are unable use an existing slab but want to enjoy the benefits of a polished concrete floor.
INSTALLATION – CONCRETE FLOORS POLISHED
DirectStone uses the HTC Superfloor™ system, a globally recognised leader in concrete polishing technology. Our flooring specialists go through a number of steps:
Grinding (All Concrete) – We use diamond-tipped grinders to progressively smooth and refine the concrete surface, revealing its natural beauty and aggregate.
Densification (All Concrete) – A hardening and densifying solution is applied in order to strengthen the concrete and prepare it for polishing.
Polishing (All Concrete) – Using progressively finer diamond polishing pads, we create a glossy, high-gloss, or matte finish based on your preferences.
Dust Control – Our grinding and polishing equipment has HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) filters to capture dust and maintain a clean, healthy work environment.
Hand Finishing – The final polish is done by hand, ensuring the utmost attention to detail and a flawless result.
Maintenance & Longevity – Keeping Your Floor Radiant
Polished concrete is incredibly durable and requires minimal maintenance. To preserve its lustre:
Daily Cleaning – Simply sweep or dust mop to remove debris.
Occasional Mopping – Use a pH-neutral cleaner and microfibre mop for deeper cleaning.
Re-Sealing – Depending on foot traffic and usage, we recommend re-sealing your polished concrete floor every 3-5 years to maintain its protective layer and enhance its shine.
