TOP TEN QUESTIONS AROUND MICROCEMENT

DirectStone is a microcement specialist; it is an important addition to our range of existing services which include polished concrete, concrete refurbishment and concrete overlays. We use only Forcrete epoxy micro cements and the DirectStone team are trained and approved installers of the system.

  1. WHAT IS FORCRETE?

Forcrete is a leading provider of technologically advanced seamless surface coatings in the UK. Microcement has been in development over a number of years and is, as a result, one of the best products on the market. It is a highly innovative, 100% waterproof, durable and practical, wall and floor coating.

  1. WHAT MAKES FORCRETE DIFFERENT TO OTHER MICRO CEMENTS?

It is waterproof on application. Every layer in the Forcrete system is fully waterproofed before the sealers are applied. This removes the industry reliance on solvent-based lacquers to protect the microcement. The Forcrete system offers unrivalled strength and reassurance for both installers and end users.

  1. DOES FORCRETE MICROCEMENT CONTAIN SOLVENTS?

Microcement is entirely solvent free and is safe for use in homes, workplaces, and public spaces. Forcrete does not use high VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) which can cause environmental and health issues.

  1. ARE THERE DIFFERENT STYLES AND FINISHES?

Yes, there are. Forcrete is available in 3 grain sizes: Smooth, medium, and coarse. We are able to closely mimic polished concrete with the Trowel-X finish, and we can even diamond polish the surface for a satin natural shine.

  1. WHAT THICKNESS IS IT APPLIED AT?

We build up multiple layers to give a finished thickness of 3-4mm. Whilst the layering is thin, it is also extremely strong and – when tested – has been found to be highly resistant to impact and damage. Microcement is the ideal choice if you want polished concrete but don’t have the depth required for its installation.

  1. WHAT COLOURS DOES MICROCEMENT COME IN?

Not only does it come in a fantastic range of colours, DirectStone can colour match RAL, Pantone, NCS and many of the high-end paint manufacturers’ colours. We can also vary the shade and intensity of the colour to match your interior colour scheme.

  1. WHERE CAN MICROCEMENT BE USED?

The 3-4mm thickness makes microcement an extremely versatile application. DirectStone has installed it in bathrooms, on floors, kitchen worktops, wet rooms, stairs, on patios, and in hypoallergenic environments.

  1. CAN MICROCEMENT BE USED WITH UNDERFLOOR HEATING?

It certainly can, and electric or piped underfloor heating works well thanks to the thermal conductivity of the material. The fact that microcement flooring is seamless helps to evenly distribute the heat to all areas, and there is minimal risk of cracking.

  1. HOW DO YOU CLEAN MICROCEMENT SURFACES?

One of the many things microcement finishes have in common with polished concrete is the hands off nature of its maintenance. All that’s needed is regular brushing, followed up with a damp cloth and mild detergent (neutral PH).

  1. DOES DIRECTSTONE PROVIDE SAMPLES?

It is possible to purchase individual samples or sample boxes that demonstrate a variety of finishes. Bespoke samples – demonstrating a specific colour are also available.

  1. DOES DIRECTSTONE HAVE A SHOWROOM?

We are in the process of creating a showroom at our workshop, located in Silsoe, Bedfordshire. If you would like to make an appointment to view either polished concrete or microcement samples, we would be delighted to see you.
