Concrete labelling: the foundation of every successful construction project
It’s estimated that construction output in the UK is worth more than £110 billion per annum and accounts for 7% of total GDP. With demand for commercial, residential and infrastructure properties continuing to rise, this isn’t a figure that is likely to fall.
In order to keep the wheels of industry turning in a sector that covers everything from housing to hospitals, it’s critical that there are robust labelling solutions available to organisations in the construction sector.
Although various raw materials like glass, brick and timber are used in construction projects, concrete – the most commonly used man-made material on earth – reigns supreme. Therefore, it’s paramount that it’s labelled properly with solutions that can withstand prolonged weathering, long-haul transportation, creasing and crushing.
But on a practical level, these solutions must also ensure traceability, tracking and easy identification throughout the supply chain, so build deadlines aren’t missed and stakeholder confidence isn’t affected.
Built to last
When supplying building materials to a construction site, barcode identification has become the industry standard; in fact, it’s considered a contractual obligation within the industry. It helps to mitigate human error and a single barcode can serve a product right the way through its lifespan, ensuring it’s fully traceable, aids inventory control and eases the logistical burden.
To guarantee that all of our products meet stringent EU regulatory requirements, you’ll see a valid CE mark on every solution that we sell. This provides buyers of construction equipment with a reassurance of quality that our products will do what they’re supposed to.
Below are some of the specialised label and tag solutions that we supply to our clients in the construction industry.
Industrial strength tags
Heavy duty industrial materials like concrete aren’t typically conducive to being tagged, and when the tags do take, they can often become damaged in transit or when loaded onto a site.
At Dura-ID, the solutions we have designed over years of working with construction clients ensure that our tags hold up under hostile conditions and retain the vital data that large-scale projects depend on. Our industrial strength tags have been specifically engineered to be tear and heat resistant, springing back to their original form after being creased or crushed, so the barcode remains perfectly legible. This also means that they can be affixed more rigorously using nails, clips or wires without impacting the tag itself.
To ensure that materials are quickly identifiable on-site, we can supply these tags colour coded, part-printed or completely plain, using an in-house printer that we will provide, install and maintain.
Heavy duty self-adhesive labels
Making sure labels stick to irregular, uneven and often dirty surfaces is notoriously difficult, and it’s a problem that has troubled the construction industry for far too long. If something isn’t labelled properly, it can cause an unnecessary delay on a project, which means money lost as well as precious time.
The heavy duty self-adhesive labels that we produce are designed to negate common labelling problems, such as labels falling off, perishing or fading under UV light. The labels we produce use only the highest quality UV stabilised inks, can be customised based on your bespoke requirements, and remain in place under the harshest weather conditions.
Self-tie tags
The self-tie tags we produce at Dura-ID are durable and can be applied with ease to a number of different materials, even whilst wearing gloves. Like the other label and tag solutions that we supply, they play an integral role in ensuring materials are fully traceable throughout transit and are easily identifiable once they have arrived on-site.
They provide an excellent alternative in situations where self-adhesive labels prove unsuitable, and they are available in a range of different materials to help meet the unique requirements of your project – whether that’s waterproof or temperature resistant. These tags can be supplied plain or pre-printed and are suitable for overprinting on-demand using a thermal transfer or a laser printer.
