Few aspects of the premises are as vulnerable as the front door. That’s why it’s important to properly secure the front door with the latest access control solutions. Modern buildings have advanced access controls, reducing the risk of burglaries.
Modern access control solutions have a range of features that makes them more secure than a traditional solution. Here we take a look at the best features of smart door entry solutions that can help secure a home and office.
Components of Modern Door Access Systems
Door access systems come with various features that reduce the risk of forced entry. Here are some of the features of a modern door access system that makes them more secure than traditional door access solutions.
1. Access Control Methods
Door access control systems installed in buildings have different types of access control techniques. The role-based access control (RBAC) is the most common type of access control method used to secure business premises. The access control method grants access to individuals based on their roles. Only individuals with a certain rank or role are allowed entry.
Discretionary access control (DAC) is a common method with residential access control systems. The system grants permission to anyone with the required access credentials.
Mandatory access control (MAC) is the third type of access control method. This is used in access control systems installed in highly secure areas such as scientific or military sites. The access control grants access to a few individuals holding a key card.
2. Card Reader
Most modern doors come with card readers that help authenticate the identity of the user. They are readers paired with specific cards to validate the user. These types of smart entry systems are mostly installed at commercial premises.
High-net individuals can also install a door access system with a card reader for the protection of the home. Make sure that the door access system should use secure communicating methods such as open supervised device protocol (OSDP) or Wiegand.
3. Sensors to Detect Position
Commercial-grade door access systems have door position sensors (DPS). The sensors can detect whether the door is closed or open. The sensors will send an alert if something suspicious is detected, such as when the door is not closed soon after entering. It may be that an intruder has held the homeowner at gunpoint forcing the door to remain open. You can review the situation and take appropriate action such as calling the cops if required.
Most electric doors also have requested existing (REX) sensors. These sensors work in tandem with an IR reader to recognize when someone is approaching the door. If the identity is authenticated through an RF chip, the door will automatically open for the user.
