Measuring an insertion loss of the near-end and / or far-end connection of a fibre optic link with an OTDR requires the use of a launch and / or receive test cable.A launch cable connects the OTDR to the link under test and reveals the insertion loss and reflectance of the near-end connection, while a receive cable connects to the far-end of the link and reveals the insertion loss and reflectance of the far-end connection. Launch and receive cables can vary in length from 150m to longer than 1km. As very long test cables are impractical to transport and use, AFL NOYES Fibre Rings offer coiled lengths of 50µm Multi-Mode, 62.5µm Multi-Mode or Single Mode fibre packaged into compact rings.
