The position acquired by the code disk of an encoder in parallel form is converted within the device into serial form and is transmitted to the control synchronously in a preset clock pulse. The significant advantage of serial transmission lies in the small number of data lines it requires. Whereas, for example, a 24 bit encoder with parallel interface requires 24 lines just to transfer the information, the same SPC Serial-Parallel Conv encoder with a serial interface requires just 4 data lines. (Note: In both cases a further 2 lines for the power supply and, where needed, another one for code sense reversal are required.)
