Dock the Docks With ATV Sprayers
It’s dock season! Farming UK points out this week that docks have continued growing throughout winter and are now ready to grow rapidly, just as soon as the weather warms up. And it certainly seems to be doing so now. Unpalatable to animals, docks are competitive and with their large tap roots, they tend to survive the winter period well. Competing with grass for light, nutrients and water, docks also reduce yields amongst many other species they share an area with and this year we are seeing more than ever. Many farmers will be preparing their sprayers, administering pesticide with ATV sprayers, stopping the docks in their tracks before they can cause too much harm to grass and crops. But according to Farming UK, timing is everything: Optimum timing for dock control is linked to the direction of their translocation flow. At the start of spring when docks are starting to grow, nutrients are moved from the tap root reserves upwards to develop new shoots and leaves. However, when docks are ‘dinner plate sized’, their flow reverses and nutrients are then going downwards from the leaves to the roots. This is a good time to apply pesticides with an ATV sprayer and other sprayers. Of course, with the growing season well under way, farming attention also focuses on liquid fertiliser tanks. Being able to store fertilizer and other chemicals, including pesticides, in bulk for when they are most needed.
