Rainwater Tanks Could Ease The Water Crisis
04-07-2014
The Guardian reports this week that ‘The fabric of our society is threatened by our mismanagement of water’. According to Jacob Tompkins, there is a global water crisis unfolding. From floods in the Balkans to drought in California. With 780 million people lacking access to clean water and with China declaring in 2013 that it was moving to importing rather than growing its own food due to water shortages, the price of most commodities is bound to increase as a result.
The article also goes on to declare that it takes 200m litres of water every second to grow the world’s food and that we are quite simply running out if it. Less than 1 per cent of the world’s water is available for human use and this percentage needs to be shared with the natural environment. And slowly, large corporations are buying up land that has associated water rights.
We’ve also reported on impending water restrictions to UK farmers; be these river extraction limits, mains water limits or increased mains water bills, one thing is certain; farmers need to take control of their own water supplies and one way of doing this is through the harvesting of rainwater. Through investing in rainwater tanks, being dedicated plastic water storage tanks that collect roof run off, farmers can store up to 30,000 litres of water per tank for when water is really needed most.
Enduramaxx has been helping farmers across the UK to make the most of this free resource for some time and has a comprehensive range of rainwater tanks to suit all environments and to make the most of space available. To learn more, click here!
