What is a fire risk assessment?A fire risk assessment is a methodical evaluation of the factors that determine the hazard from fire, the likelihood that there will be a fire and the risk to life if one were to occur.The aims of the Fire Risk Assessment are to:Identify the hazardsIdentify general fire precautions needed to reduce the risks of those hazards causing harm to as low as is reasonably practicableEvaluate what physical fire precautions and management arrangements are necessary to ensure the safety of building occupants and other affected parties should a fire start.The risk assessment identifies the current risk to life as well as the potential level of life risk once all the recommended fire precautions are put in place.A fire risk assessment is primarily focused on life safety, though some of the fire safety precautions will have the additional benefit of property protection this is not the aim of the assessment.Can I carry this out myself?Yes, if you consider you have the competence to do so.A competent person may be regarded as a person with sufficient training and experience, knowledge or other qualities, to enable them to carry out a defined task properly. All ENV assessors are fully qualified to undertake Fire Risk Assessments and hold full Professional Indemnity Insurance for this activity.ENV undertake Fire Risk Assessments either when a client does not have the necessary competence or when they do not have the time or resources to conduct the risk assessments themselves. ENV do not supply or install fire detection and alarm systems, or fixed or portable fire fighting equipment. Therefore we can provide independent, impartial, and cost effective advice.Is it required by Law?Yes. (There are very few exceptions).Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, a fire risk assessment is necessary in virtually all buildings in England and Wales, other than domestic dwellings.Following a thorough inspection of your premises ENV will produce a comprehensive and legally compliant report in accordance with PAS 79 in order to meet the requirement under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
