Focus SB employee raises £6000 for Guys Hospital
Focus SB employee, Duncan Ray, trekked for five days across terrain ranging from tropical jungle on the rim of the Amazon Basin to the snow covered peaks of the Andes. In order to raise money for Guys Hospital after recently undergoing open heart surgery at St Thomas’ Hospital in London to spare his aortic root and replace his pulmonary valve with a donated human tissue valve, having gone through the same procedure at the age of 13 at Guys Hospital. Though both operations were very complex, they have enabled Duncan to fulfill his dream of trekking in Peru. Reaching heights of 4600m Duncan and his companions had to deal with the effects of altitude and with temperatures ranging from +23c to -3c, covering between nearly hard 30 miles during the trek. They took the Lares route to Machu Pichhu for 3 days and then joined the ancient inca trail at Machu Pichhu National park where we climbed Machu Pichhu mountain before entering the ancient lost city via the original sun gate. During the trek they stopped at a local school in the mountains where they handed out gifts of pens pencils and pads to the local village children. Duncan said, "The experience was amazing and I am extremely grateful to everyone who helped make it possible and donated towards helping the hospitals with all their vital work." The link below shows the total raised so far, there are still a few more promised donations to follow and it should end up around £6000 with gift aid. The page is still open for donations! http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/duncanray
