How to Clean Artificial Grass
17-08-2016
Many homeowners have taken the environmentally-friendly step of installing artificial grass in the exterior environment of their home. Once the lawn has been laid there are a number of measures that you’ll need to take to keep the lawn looking perfect all year round.
Obviously, synthetic grass doesn’t need to be regularly mowed, watered or maintained. Those with artificial lawns need not be concerned with applying pesticides or fungicides, potentially damaging the environment or even themselves.
Those with artificial lawns are advised to water their lawns on occasion. This will remove any microscopic amounts of dirt, dust and other debris that may have gathered in the fibres. This will make the area safer for families and pets to enjoy. The use of a power water hose is advised as this won’t affect the structural stability of the lawn.
Following a good soaking if the lawn still has debris caught in the fibres, then use a plastic rake to collect the debris. Metal rakes are considered inadequate as they may damage the synthetic grass by ripping and tearing chunks of the artificial grass away. By using a thin brush or broom you will be able to collect any debris with ease. By employing the use of a leaf blower you’ll be able to completely remove fibres that are embedded deeply in the artificial grass.
One of the more acknowledged ways to clean artificial grass, and one that’s considered to provide superlative solutions by those with synthetic grass is weed killer. This is primarily due to the fact that bothersome weeds and crab grass tend to grow nearby. This can harm the filler layer and bedrock, impacting on the grass.
Believe it or not fabric softeners will reduce static and keep the individual artificial grass fibres supple and spongy. There are a number of degreasers and cleaners that have been specifically manufactured for the sole purpose of keeping artificial grass in optimal condition. A specialised cleaning detergent can be employed to eliminate odours and pet urine. Any solid debris or waste should be removed by hand before being washed by a jet hose and employing fabric softeners.
These are just some of the techniques that homeowners have employed to keep their artificial grass soft, supple, clean and free of all toxic pollutants
