Highway to Hell: Coping with the Heat
09-07-2015
When it comes to summer it doesn’t matter what industry you work in, whether you are in an office, a hospital or installing one of our diesel fuel management systems, you will be affected by the heat. Some days are worse than others, leaving you praying for the icy embrace of Christmas; others make you wonder how it dare even call itself the hottest season of the year. We’re here to help you deal with the former. The chances are that as you’re reading this it’s probably pouring down, you’re drinking a cup of tea and have a woolly hat on, but let’s pretend it’s sweltering- if you can… Just as there are essential things you’ll be all too familiar with doing to keep yourself warm, there are easy tricks you can adopt to give your body a chance of keeping you cooler (for the rare occasion that may be necessary). Sandals Driving in sandals may make you feel on a fast track to a motorised scooter, but not only will it stop you eating through pair after pair of shoes, it will help to keep you cool. Your body loses a lot of heat through your feet so travelling in sandals, or even barefoot if you can still control your vehicle effectively, will help no end. - See more at: http://www.fueltek.co.uk/highway-to-hell-coping-with-the-heat/#sthash.hhk1Of18.dpuf
Makeshift Ice Packs Freeze bottles of water, wrap them in cloth and position them behind your neck. These will be an incredible help in cooling you down in the intense heat and will last for a decent amount of time. Make sure you wrap the cloth / tea towel around sufficiently, otherwise you’ll get nice little icy shocks making their way down your back. Water Make sure you take plenty of water with you on your journey. Remaining hydrated in the summer heat is absolutely paramount. It’s not always easy to pull off into a service station, so making sure you are stocked up will mean you can carry on your way along the road with the wind in your hair without having to make any unnecessary detours or stops. - See more at: http://www.fueltek.co.uk/highway-to-hell-coping-with-the-heat/#sthash.hhk1Of18.dpuf
Cooling Container Taking a cooling container will not only mean that you are able to keep your water cool, it will mean you can take an even more substantial amount with you, and save you money by being able to reuse your bottles. Not only that, you can transport several of the ice packs which, in turn, will keep your water supplies chilled. That’s like 8 birds with one cooling container. Crack a Window Not literally. Although, that probably would alleviate the heat issue… Open a window and allow the rush of air in. Whilst this may be incredibly obvious, the temptation is to keep your windows shut whilst you are driving because of smells and pollution that can surround your vehicle however, it is a great mode of keeping cool. It will also help to recycle the air in your cabin and keep your driving atmosphere fresh. Dress Cool Where you can, uniform permitting, dress down. Cottons and thinner fabrics will help alleviate some of the heat stress. Wearing a hat will aid in keeping the sun out of your eyes as well as preventing any excess heat that may reach your head. We’ve touched on a couple of the areas mentioned in the video below, but for advice on how to truck like an Australian, check it out: - See more at: http://www.fueltek.co.uk/highway-to-hell-coping-with-the-heat/#sthash.hhk1Of18.dpuf
