GGB plant in China certified
13-07-2009
GGB Bearing Technology (formerly Glacier Garlock Bearings) has received TS-16949 and ISO 9001 certification for its Suzhou production facility, as well as its Shanghai sales office.
“Certification to these global quality standards is a major milestone for our operations, and all the more remarkable given that weve only been in production for less than a year,” said GGB China General Manager Mathias Senghaas. “These certifications are critical to our business development efforts, particularly in the automotive market.
The TS-16949 standard defines the quality system requirements for the design, development, production, installation and servicing of automotive-related products. It consolidates into one global specification the requirements of the U.S. QS-9000, German VDA6.1, French EAQF and Italian AVSQ.
Joseph Fults, GGB vice president for Asia, added, “China continues to represent the biggest growth potential of all our geographic markets. We entered the market in 2005 with the establishment of a sales office Shanghai in 2005, followed in 2007 by a second office on Beijing.
“Recognizing that capitalizing upon the enormous potential of the Chinese market would require the ability to source our products locally, we opened a 4,000-sq-ft. plant in Suzhou in 2008 to produce our metal-polymer and filament-wound bearings,” he explained. “The performance of GGB in China in an otherwise extremely soft global economy confirms that we made the right strategic decision.”
