Fetter Lane High Level Glass Replacements
09-07-2012
Glazing Refurbishment has over this weekend completed the replacement of 10no large high level damaged glass units within Central London’s busiest commercial districts.
Glazing Refurb’s dedicated high level glazing division attended the sit...e at the end of April and conducted via rope abseil techniques a detailed survey and glass measure to establish the configuration of the existing glass units. This included matching the body tint and establishing critical glass sizes and weights. All units here were of an irregular shape therefore detailed templates were required to accurately establish all angles and curved edges.
In conjunction with our glass measure our in house Health and Safety Team spent the necessary time conducting an in depth appraisal of the works to establish all required road closures, associated permits, crane requirements, abseil configurations and safe anchor points.
A comprehensive Health and Safety plan along with copies the program of works and detailed methods and risk assessments was then established and submitted to our client. When undertaking works of this nature, giving our client full confidence in our capabilities is of paramount importance, all parties were now fully aware of methods and operational procedure.
Glazing Refurbishment then set about sourcing glass units to match the existing high performance tinted double glazed units. The glass, manufactured within the Continent was tracked down to a supplier in Germany and all templates shipped across. Providing our glass supplier with full details meant there was absolutely no risk of error in translation. The new double glazed units were promptly ordered then imported via a specialist Glazing Refurbishment 4 tonne glass transportation vehicle.
Road closures, permits and traffic management strategies were then arranged by us in conjunction with Transport for London, the client and neighbouring buildings. Critical in our planning was working clearly alongside The Olympic Planning Committee. Our sites location was centred directly within the Olympic transit route therefore special attention was paid to causing as little disruption to the numerous goods vehicle travelling alongside our works area.
Highly trained Glazing Refurbishment Banksman were fully briefed prior to works and systematic traffic flow provisions put into place. Working concurrently with The Olympic Committee meant dedicated time slots for glass movement were worked out and adhered to with precision.
The works were then completed over the weekend utilising a combination of a truck mounted city crane, hydraulic a - frames, power suction lifters, high level glazing technicians and abseil technicians. Also utilised during the project was our bespoke in-house strapping system designed to provide a fail-safe means of manoeuvring large heavy glass units above City Centre Locations and busy public areas.
All new units were installed with new high specification butyl glazing tape and completed with the application of structural grade silicone sealant.
To complete the works our office based project team are finalising all operational and maintenance paperwork alongside additional quotation covering ongoing maintenance and cleaning works.
All in all another fine project completed by Glazing Refurbishment Limited, a very happy client and the added satisfaction in knowing we have once again improved the skyline of our wonderful capital!
